Fiona Williams

Child Safeguarding Hub Project Lead

Fiona is a child safeguarding and child protection specialist and has worked in the international development sector for over 15 years. Fiona is the project lead for AVI’s Child Safe Volunteering Hub.

As an advocate for the rights of children, Fiona has worked in partnership with organisations across Australia and internationally to strengthen policy, practices and systems to protect the safety and wellbeing of children and young people.

As a consultant she facilitated workshops on child safeguarding and the prevention of sexual misconduct for the Council for International Development in New Zealand, and conducted child safeguarding reviews for organisations including AVI and Oxfam Australia. Fiona also developed a Child Safeguarding Toolkit for Oxfam Australia.

Fiona was the Child Safeguarding Advisor at Save the Children for seven years, has co-written child protection guidance notes for the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and was a member of the expert panel for the child safe organisation study commissioned by the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse (Australia).

Amita Prasad

Child Safeguarding Hub Coordinator, Suva Fiji

Amita has worked in the development sector in Fiji for over 10 years. Amita is the Coordinator for AVI’s Child Safe Volunteering Hub for Fiji and Vanuatu. Amita is an experienced social worker and has worked in the NGO sector for 7 years specialising in child protection and safeguarding policies and procedure development and managing community-based projects focused on children and communities.

Being a passionate and committed advocate for Children’s rights, Amita has worked with a wide range of stakeholders in Fiji both in the Development and Humanitarian Sector promoting the rights and well-being of children.

Amita has worked for Save the Children Fiji in lead roles across different sectors including Child Protection, Disaster Risk Reduction, Health, Child Sensitive Livelihoods and Food Security. Amita has also been the Program Manager for Save the Children managing the Development Programme Portfolio.
